Unclog Drain Naturally

How To Naturally Clear Your Drain Clogs

There are many things that will clog your drains. While you may want to reach for the chemical drain cleaner, you should ditch that immediately. Chemical drain cleaners heat up the debris that is causing the clog to eat it away. While this works to get rid of the clog, it also can cause damage to your pipes. The good news is that there are several natural ways to clear your drain clogs.

Boiling Water

Sometimes, the best way to get rid of a clog is to use some boiling water. Boil the water on your stovetop. You will then want to pour it down your drain. This hot water will melt away clogs. It is important to note, that if you have PVC drain lines, do not use this for unclogging. If you have a sink or bathtub full of water, this method will not work for it either.

If the boiling water does not work, mix up some dish soap in the boiling water. This can help to break up grease clogs. To do this, mix three to five tablespoons of liquid dish soap in with your boiling water. You may have to do this several times to completely clear the drain.

Plunger

A simple clog can work to remove a clog. Many people think that a plunger will only clear toilets, but it can also dislodge sink and bathtub clogs. This method will not work on your kitchen sink if you have a garbage disposal installed.

Baking Soda Mix

Baking soda and vinegar can clear a clog. To remove the clog, pour about half a cup of baking soda down your drain. Let it sit for a few minutes to ensure that it settles. You will now want to make a mixture of one cup of very hot water, and one cup of vinegar. Now cover by putting in the drain plug. After it sits for a few minutes, uncover, and pour some more hot water. The drain should be clear now.

If the baking soda and vinegar solution does not work, you can try baking soda and salt. Mix ½ cup of salt and ½ cup of baking soda together. Pour the powder down the drain. Leave this in for at least thirty minutes. Then you will want to pour some boiling hot water to clear the pipes.

Calling A Plumber

If you cannot remove the blockage by yourself, you will want to call a plumber. A plumber has specialized equipment to remove the clog without having to use a drain cleaner. They will be able to find the exact place of the clog. Not getting the clog removed by a plumber can lead to issues. These include not being able to use your drains, septic tank backups, and drain failure.
