We also have monthly technical and safety training meetings as well as product training and safety training meetings as well as product training so that our technicians have the background they need to provide excellent service to our valued customers.

Our History
Bob Bair earned his plumbing license in 1969. He showed promise early on by coming in 2nd place in the State Plumbing Contest. He sold his motorcycle to buy his first piece of equipment and started his business out of his garage in North Downers Grove. His daughter Tracy started answering the phone on summer break when she was just 12 years old.
Working nights and weekends with just a landline telephone, a pager, and a van, Bob grew his business based on quality workmanship, honesty, and integrity. He did home service and new construction plumbing all over DuPage County with the help of a part-time assistant.
As his reputation grew, so did his business. After several years, he moved to a bigger location on Ogden Ave, added a second plumber, increased his helper to full time, bought a new van, and hired a secretary. Bob incorporated his business in 1974 as Robert Bair Plumbing Inc.
Bob Bair passed in 2025. He started Robert Bair Plumbing, Heating & Air with a commitment to honesty, reliability, and exceptional service. For over five decades, he built a company rooted in integrity and trust, values that continue to define who we are today. Bob’s adventurous spirit, love for animals, and deep appreciation for those around him shaped the heart of this business. His legacy lives on in every service call, every satisfied customer, and every lasting relationship we build.
As the company continued to grow, he offered his customers more home services by adding the Heating and Air Conditioning division. With too many trucks, equipment, and technicians crammed into the space on Ogden Ave, he moved again to 447 Rogers Street in Downers Grove.
This location had enough space for a warehouse, office, and truck/employee parking. More trucks were purchased to accommodate the growing business and keep up with the customers’ varied needs. The company moved from paper and pagers to Nextel radios and computers with a full-time dispatcher. Bob changed the name of his company from Robert Bair Plumbing Inc. to Robert Bair Plumbing, Heating & Air.
Today the company has about 30 employees and 15 trucks. Most recently, the Solar & Geothermal division was added to address our customers’ concerns about rising energy costs.
Our company values are the same as they were in the beginning — quality workmanship, honesty, and integrity. In 2005, Robert Bair Plumbing, Heating & Air was nominated for the BBB Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics and by the Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce as a finalist for Service Excellence Award.
Robert Bair Plumbing, Heating & Air won the Business Excellence Award for small business from the Suburban Business Ledger in 2009, was voted “Best in Service” by the Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce twice, was nominated the 2019 Best in Neighborhood by NextDoor, and was awarded the Business Excellence in Service Award by Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.
